With over 300,000 audition video posts from American Idol hopefuls, music industry forces and superstar judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie are ready to take on the challenge in helping America determine who to vote for to become the next singing sensation.
Grammy- and Emmy-nominated music star Katy Perry is the first judge to sign on this revival. “I am honored and thrilled to be the first judge bringing back the American Idol tradition of making dreams come true for incredible talents with authentic personalities and real stories,” tells Katy. Dubbed as the dark horse among the three judges, she is sincere and surprisingly natural! Her ability to soothe the contestants in a way to put them at ease is a big revelation about Katy, especially for one of the biggest global pop star like herself. That’s something to watch for!
Another powerhouse in the judges panel is Lionel Richie, who is widely known for his mega-hits such as “Endless Love,” “Lady,” “Truly,” and “We Are the World,” written with Michael Jackson. Lionel is the resident voice of reason on the American Idol panel as Katy, seated in between her male co-judges, would often turn to him to deliver the most adult spin on “absolutely no, never” possible. Props to Katy for passing over the trickiest part of judging! No harm done though as Lionel is truly excited to be on the show. “As a singer, songwriter and producer, I feel I can bring a great deal of experience to the table. It’s going to be so much fun!”
Luke Bryan is a two-time Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association Entertainer of the Year. Who would’ve thought he has a gift of gab? On the show, Luke is mostly there to be rugged and engage in a friendly banter with Katy. Maybe a bit too much banter that Lionel must ask them to “pipe it down” to hear the contestants sing! This can be a hilarious exchange between a country singer, a pop star, and a balladeer. There are just too many extraordinary episodes to look forward to on the all new American Idol and we can hardly wait!
