#AIonETC Recap: Idol hopefuls Dennis Lorenzo, Michelle Sussett, and Ada Vox talk about their journey

Our ETC feels haven’t moved on from the eliminations last week! American Idol hopefuls Dennis Lorenzo, Michelle Sussett, and Ada Vox had to bid goodbye to their Idol dreams. The trio shared their ultimate moments on stage and what’s next on their respective journeys.

Going last, do you think that had any effect on the votes with the fact that the voting was live the entire show?

Dennis: It’s impossible not to think that.  However, I believe that the production team did what they felt was best.  And they had to put on a show, first and foremost. So, I think that they felt that I was a strong-enough competitor to end the show on a high note.  And, you know, Luke Bryan said to me, “Homerun, Dennis” right after I finished.  So, you know, if that was the case, then so be it.  But, you know, I’m happy and grateful to have made it this far.

Being a guitar player and everything, what would you have done for Prince night?

Dennis: Man, maybe “Kiss” or “When Doves Cry”, something like that.  “When Doves Cry” was my top choice.

Looking forward to seeing what you do next!

Dennis: No problem.  Thank you so much.  Make sure you look out for my EP, Dennis Lorenzo – yes, it’s already out, Dennis Lorenzo Unplugged.  It’s an acoustic EP, so it’s definitely what you were talking about, that solid music and I’m, yes, definitely embracing (YM) as an artist and it’s a five-song piece of work, so make sure to look out for that.

You had a breakthrough moment with “Remember Me”.  How was that approaching that song?

Michelle: So, far I think it was my best performance throughout the whole competition, that and (coming out) when I performed (just all around) in Hollywood. I really felt connected with the song for the message that it had and I think the style of the song really fit me pretty well, you know, so I really get to enjoy performing this song.

Did you feel a lot of pressure with everybody comparing you to Jennifer Lopez, Camille Isabella, and Britney Spears?

Michelle: It feels great because being compared with such huge artists for me is such a great compliment.  But at the same time, I want people to see me as Michelle Sussette.  I don’t want them to see me as the new Gloria Estefan or the new Britney Spears. Definitely, I felt a little bit of pressure.  Yes, I’m not going to lie.  But at the same time, that helped me to just keep on pushing to be more original and unique and not try to copy any of these artists.

What do you want to do with this now?  There’s so many (lanes)?

Michelle: The first thing I want to do is record my original song, “I’m a Dreamer”.  I’ve had so many feedback [from] people [on] social media telling me how inspired they felt when they heard my song, so that’s definitely something that I want to put out.  I’m going to move to L.A. and try to find somebody who wants to work with me, who wants to work on an album because that’s something that I want to do next.

I loved everything you put together for the “Circle of Life”.  It was like you were like channeling Simba in a way.

Ada: I was with all the lion goddesses in the world!  It was great. You know, the American Idol wardrobereally came through with that custom-made gown and with the big sleeves and the American Idol staging team do their thing every single week for every performer.  It was just phenomenal getting to work with all of them and having their ideas come together at such a beautiful way.

What are your post-Idol plans?  You were talking about how now you’ve got this big platform.  How do you intend to use it?

Ada: From here on out, all I can do is continue to grow my name as best as possible and, you know, take advantage of this platform.  [I’ll] make sure that I get out there in the real world and actually have people hear me and see me in real life to see what it really is because I feel like Ada Vox is so much more than a TV experience… Hopefully, getting a tour together sometime very, very soon to really make my stop around a lot of the LGBT community especially to kind of give back to the people who have supported me from the very beginning.

And how about Idina?  What did you learn from her as a mentor?  She was really taken with you.

Ada: Hearing from Idina telling me that she absolutely loved me when I focus a little bit more on my singing and my tone as oppose to the tricks that I can pull with my voice, you know, that was something that I took into consideration and it’s something that I’ll carry with me as I continue on.
